Name is a word or set of words by which a person or thing is known, addressed, or referred to. The name you call a thing that is what it becomes for you. The name we bear was given to us by our parents or guardians and it has a very strong effect on our lives.
We cannot forget the story of Jabez, his birth was difficult, for this reason, his mother named him Jabez (in Hebrew it means Sorrowful). 1Chron. 4:9-10, we find a short prayer uttered by an obscure man. Jabez was more honourable than his brothers, you can imagine the level of poverty in that family. Against all odds, Jabez called on God saying "Oh Lord, bless me indeed, enlarge my coast and expand my territory".
Jacob was a cheat and was always cheated till he had an encounter with an angel of God in Bethel, thereafter his name was changed to Israel (Gen 32:22-31). And everything about him changed from that day. In time past, most mothers that had bitter experiences in marriage will call their children names like Patience, Ndidi, Endurance, Cicilia, Ogadinma, and so on. I thank God that we are wiser today.
What name are we referring to as the highest and greatest name on earth? This name is above every king and kingdom, every hill and valley, all men and wisdom, this name is called Jesus Christ. When satan hears it he trembles, when you call it in the midst of battle you find peace.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6).
"At the mention of His name every knee shall bow" (Romans 14:11), this is an affirmation of His sovereignty over all who worship God. I will be glad to know that you are in agreement with me that the name of Jesus Christ is the highest now and forever, Amen.
